Top 10 Wedding Cake Cutting Songs & Ideas

Your wedding reception is almost over, and the fun and lightheartedness of the day has finally kicked in – it’s time for the cake! One of the least stressful moments of your wedding has begun and to celebrate it, cut your cake with a light, fun song! Traditionally, many brides have used “The Bride Cuts the Cake” (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell), but many modern brides are selecting more contemporary cake cutting songs.Square-Red-Cala-Lily

Whether you choose something traditional such as “Happy Together” by the Turtles or something a bit edgier with a rock sound such as “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard, the song you select for your cake cutting ceremony should be reflective of both of your personalities. This is the one moment of your wedding where you do not have to be very traditional, you can be as funky and different as you want to be. When you are cutting the cake you certainly want people to remember the moment for as long as you will and playing the right music will definitely help to make that happen.

Since most songs are several minutes in length, the cake cutting ceremony may be shorter than the song itself. You will want to consult with your band or DJ and let them know exactly how to play the song. Most songs can be cut in length or have only a chorus or two played.

If you are stuck for ideas for songs for your cake cutting ceremony, here is a Top 10 List of Cake Cutting music compiled by DJ Robert Fayder, Owner of Party Perfect NYC.

  1. Wanna Grow Old With You – Adam Sandler
  2. When I’m 64 – The Beatles
  3. Ice Cream – Sarah McGlocklain
  4. Sugar Sugar – The Archies
  5. Love and Marriage – Frank Sinatra
  6. Build Me Up Buttercup – The Foundations
  7. Going To The Chapel – The Shirells
  8. How Sweet It Is – James Taylor

Wedding Cake Checklist

Your wedding cake can be ordered from a baker, a caterer, or even your reception location. When ordering your wedding cake some things you should consider are: the price, the workmanship, the quality (of both flavor and design) and the taste. Some reception locations will charge you a fee if you order your cake from an outside baker. This fee is known as a cake-cutting fee. However, ordering from a baker who specializes in wedding cakes will ensure you are getting exactly what you want for your wedding cake.

You will also have to decide on other options such as: size, shape, color, decorations, flavor, filling and frosting. An experienced baker who specializes in wedding cakes will advise you how much cake you will need, what flavors are popular, and which frostings will hold up over the course of your reception. Frostings are very delicate – some do not perform well when exposed to air or heat for long periods of time (whipped cream is an example of this). Ask for photographs of wedding cakes from each baker you are considering, and also ask if you can taste samples of their cakes.

Once you narrow down your choices for a baker here are some questions to ask before making a final decision:didi

Do-it-yourself Indian Wedding Cake

The Indian tradition of intricate painting and design is also one of things that is very prominent in Indian wedding cakes. This is probably where the concept of using Henna cake has originated.1305

Indian wedding cakes are not different from other cakes that are used in other weddings. The only thing that makes them distinct is the design that is used in making the cake. Indian wedding cakes are known for their unique and traditional designs. To be fitted for the occasion, intricate designs are put into these cakes. You can tell the culture which the cake originated from by the way it is designed.

In the case of Indian wedding cakes today, blending the modern world with the past culture is always a challenge. Even if the ingredients that they have are already adapted from western cultures, there is always that traditional sense present in the patterns and designs.

Nowadays, the prices of wedding cakes are the primary reason why a lot of people prefer doing it themselves. This is the same thing with Indian wedding cakes. All you need to do is to have the ingredients and the necessary equipments for baking the cake.

How do you go about making your Indian wedding cake?

1. The cake selection.

The first thing that you need to do is choose the type of Indian cake you like. You can look over the bridal magazines or sites online that are offering a variety of Indian wedding cake ingredients and designs.

Since Indian wedding cakes are known for their intricate designs, you can adapt the most common designs that some Indian couples have made in their wedding cakes. But if you are creative enough, you can come up with one of your own.

The ingredients that you choose should not be hard to find. You can choose from a wide selection of flavors that are available in all other wedding cakes.

2. Making the cake.

Once all the ingredients and the necessary cooking equipments are prepared, you can now bake the Indian cake that you want.

You can start by making plans on how your cake will look like. How many layers do you want it? How big does it have to be? These are some of the questions that you need to answer first before you bake your Indian wedding cake.

One way of doing it is to make a trial cake. This will ensure that the taste will turn out exactly the way you want it. Also, this will be the basis on how the final wedding cake will look like. Having a trial created will help you decide if you want to make some necessary changes that you do not want to have in the final Indian wedding cake.

You can try and enlist the help of the expert in baking wedding cakes. They can give you tips on how to prepare the icing or the pillars if you do not have any basic idea about them.

Making your own Indian wedding cake cannot only save you some money, you can also come up with the design and style that you wanted. The good thing about making your own Indian cake is that you can make certain that it is baked to perfection. Moreover, your Indian wedding cake will surely be one of a kind.

The Many Wedding Cake Options

These days you have many different choices when it comes to wedding cakes. Gone are the days when a white on white cake was just about mandatory. Today brides are doing many different things to make their wedding cake special. Learn about some of your options when it comes to wedding cake flavors and icing.Jenny_lindsay_square_wedding_cake

When you are deciding on a wedding cake the first thing you will have to decide on is the flavor of the cake. You could go with the basic white cake. It is a wedding classic but these days you have many more options. You can choose from such flavors as chocolate, mocha, lemon, raspberry or even carrot or spice cake. Don’t be afraid to be different. Choose what you like.

Next you will have to choose a filling if you want one. This is another opportunity for you to get creative. Choose from flavors like amaretto, mocha, rum, orange, custard, cream cheese and more. The list is almost endless so you should be able to find a filling that you like.

Last we come to icing. There are many different styles of icing with different characteristics. Butter cream is a thicker icing that has a smooth finish. Whipped cream icing is lighter and fluffy but is also more delicate. Another popular icing is fondant. Fondant is another popular choice. It is a smooth thick icing that is rolled onto a cake. It is not as tasty as other icings but makes for a very attractive cake. Lastly there is royal icing. It is an icing that will harden after it is applied and it is used to create intricate decorations.

The type of wedding cake choice can be a difficult decision to make. Just remember that it is your day and you should ultimately choose what you like.

Things To Remember When Buying Your Wedding Cake

One of the most thought about aspects of any wedding is the wedding cake. Every bride wants their wedding cake to be the focal point of the wedding reception table and something that guests will admire and talk about even after the wedding day.

With so many designs and styles available plus the added option to customize and accessorize your wedding cake to suit your wedding theme the options are truly endless.plum

Before you embark on enrolling someone with the job of creating your wedding cake it is worth making preliminary decisions before hand. Having an idea of what your budget is and what sort of cake you have in mind could save you a considerable amount of time. Do you know what filling the cake will have? Sponge or fruit cake? Do you want a tiered cake? If so how may tiers do you want for your wedding cake?. Having a few of these details already decided will help both you and the caterer you decide to employ.

Although it is a good idea to have ideas in mind, stay open to suggestions from the professionals, they may suggest something you may never have considered and that something could turn out to be your perfect wedding cake.

When you are ready to see the cake decorator or caterer (most should see you for a consultation free of charge) ask to see photos of their designs and do not be afraid to ask for something different or mix two styles together, most caterers should be happy to oblige.

Most wedding cakes are decorated with white icing but if your theme is pink or a different colour there is no reason why the icing on your wedding cake should not match it.

Once you have chosen the filling for your wedding cake you then need to start thinking about a topper, the days of the imitation plastic bride and groom are long gone! Nowadays these cake toppers can be custom made and created to look exactly like the bride and groom, even down to the brides dress!.

Most wedding cake designers will need all decisions made and finalised three to six months before the event. I would strongly recommend having the wedding cake ordered six months in advance to allow for any changes that may need to be make and piece of mind for you.

You will need to budget well for your wedding cake, remember the cost of the cake is normally separate to the decorator’s fee, it is also wise to ask if there is any charge for having the wedding cake delivered so every outlay will be covered in your budget.

What ever design or style you choose the wedding cake plays such an important role in the wedding day, having the perfect wedding cake to slice with your partner will make the day extra special.

After the wedding cake has been cut and enjoyed by the guests remember to keep your wedding cake topper safe, this keepsake will always remind you of your perfect day, and who knows, it could be passed down to your children to use on their special day.

Wedding Cake’s Designs

To be completely honest, you don’t have to know anything about your wedding cakes designs before you call up and order the cake. However, if saving both time and money is a goal of yours, you should definitely put a bit of thought into the wedding cake’s designs before going straight to the baker or pastry chef.3_tier_fondant_iced_square_wedding_cake

Some Important Things to Consider Before You Order…

Size & Amount: Wedding cake is usually tallied at a per slice rate. This means the more people you have at your wedding, the larger and larger the bill is going to get. If you can, try to keep the guest list under control so the price of the wedding cake doesn’t get too extreme. If the guest list is already set, well, then you’ll just have to make a few sacrifices with the “appearance” of the cake rather than the “amount”.

Cake Decorations: As you’ve probably guessed, there has to be some sort of decorations — it’s a wedding cake after all. Luckily, decorations for the cake aren’t all that expensive and they can be added on without skyrocketing the cost. All you have to do is pick what you want and you’ll be good to go. It’s not uncommon for the bride and groom to buy & use their own cake decorations.

Design Concept: If you want your wedding cakes designs to be perfect and professional, it’s probably a good idea to look at picture galleries and cake design magazines to spark your imagination. Some people prefer to use wedding cake design software (very inexpensive) to ensure they get EXACTLY what they want.

Icing: The icing for wedding cake is an important decision, believe it or not. Choosing the wrong icing could result in a very poor tasting cake with bleeding colors, while choosing the right icing will mean a delicious cake with impeccable designs & decorations. Your choice for icing will likely be one of the following; butter cream, royal icing, fondant, and/or marzipan.

Your wedding cake’s designs can be simple, elegant, and inexpensive OR they can be as fancy, as intricate, and as over-the-top as you can imagine. The decision is completely up to you and the size of your budget.

Fountain Wedding Cake

Have you considered having a fountain wedding cake at your wedding reception? Do you know why you should consider a fountain wedding cake? There are very few weddings that feature this type of cake and it is a great customized touch to your wedding. It will take just a bit of imagination to come up with the fountain that you want, but it can be a reality and make your wedding great. You can add your favorite flavor to it and get some great decorations to go with the cake. It is a very simple process.Square-Wedding-Cake8

The Easy Fountain Wedding Cake

You can take a look at a portable fountain to get an idea of what you will be looking at with your cake. This fountain cake will need to be as large as the area you plan to use for your cake presentation. You will also have to have a pretty good idea of how many guests you are going to have before you start putting your cake together. After you have this information and have a good idea on the size and the type of fountain you want the remaining job is to have a baker put your cake together and make it beautiful.

This is where you are going to have to get creative. You can do different flavors on each tier or you can keep them the same. You can use wine or chocolate instead of water to flow down the cake. You can even use champagne to add a great touch and sparkle to your cake. You can even add a few sound effects to your fountain if you want to make it even more romantic. You can have fresh flowers added to enhance your cake or add fresh fruit that can be dipped in chocolate for a great touch. It is all up to you and the more creative you can get the happier you will be with your cake.

Just because you go with a fountain cake does not mean you have to break your budget. You can rent the fountain that will go with your cake and you can make some of your cake arrangements for very cheap if you get creative. You can have a fountain cake done for about the same cost as a traditional wedding cake if you find the right baker that is willing to work with your ideas.

Everybody want to customize their wedding so that it is different than others. Adding a fountain wedding cake to your wedding can really help you customize your wedding and add a very elegant touch to the reception.

5 Tips For an Inexpensive Wedding Cake

There’s no getting around the wedding cake. Unlike other things for wedding, those of which you can just get rid of entirely, the cake is something you have to deal with. Fortunately, there are indeed ways to get cheap wedding cakes and save big money. To find out how, just keep reading.stargazer-lily-square-wedding-cake3

5 Tips to Get Cheap Wedding Cakes…

1.) See if any local bakeries are offering specials or discounts for inexpensive cake. If so, see what options are available and whether or not they can give you a good deal.

2.) Rather than dealing with a private bakery or specialty cake stores, try searching for at-home specialty bakers. Such a person will be able to make you a beautiful wedding cake for less than HALF of what a private bakery would charge you.

3.) If you’ve chosen to get your cake from a private bakery or pastry chef, consider sacrificing a few of the cake’s fancy designs & decorations for a cheaper per slice price. Remember, “simple & elegant” is just as good as “fancy & expensive”.

4.) Go with a cheaper wedding cake icing rather than one of the more expensive ones. Instead of marzipan or fondant icing, go with the cheaper, yet still very tasty, butter cream icing.

5.) If you have a friend that has a talent for baking, ask him/her if they could bake the wedding cake as a gift to you and your husband (or wife). If they can, well, you’ve just saved hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of dollars!

Quick Note: When it comes to finding cheap wedding cakes, be sure to always get a sample of the baker’s work. It’s great if the wedding cake is cheap, but that won’t really matter if the cake tastes like dung.

Expensive Wedding Cake Icing That Tastes Like Dung

Wedding cake icing is quite often over looked by the bride & groom. Yes, it’s a seemingly small detail of the much larger picture, but that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. Truth be told, if you choose the wrong wedding cake icing, the result will be a cake that forces guests to up-chuck the dinner they ate just minutes before.657106277_cb3ce46022

The Icing You Don’t Want…

Fondant: This is a commonly used icing for wedding cake. Why? Well, it’s not because of it’s taste, that’s for sure. The reason fondant icing is commonly used is due to the fact that it’s the best icing for creating & maintaining gorgeous cake decorations & designs.

Once fondant icing hardens, the designs & decorations will remain in place and in perfect condition until the cake is ready to be eaten. The unfortunate drawback, this icing (usually) tastes like dung; at least according to most people.

Quick Note: The are a few different types of fondant icing. Some will be better than others.

Wedding Cake Icing You Do Want…

Butter Cream: This is the most popular cake icing around. It’s easy to decorate with, it tastes good, and it’s pretty cheap too. The one and only downside to this icing is that it bleeds easy if the temperature starts to climb.

Royal Icing: This is basically “sugar” icing. It can be used to create fairly intricate designs with minimal hassle. Like fondant, this icing hardens after sitting in place. It’s fairly tasty and is widely used by amateur cake makers.

While you don’t have devote hours & hours to choosing the right wedding cake icing, you shouldn’t just pass it off and hope things turn out all right. Give icing some serious consideration and you won’t be disappointed when it’s all said and done.

Summer Wedding Cakes

square_wedding_cakeSummer is one of the most popular times for weddings, and it is a season of joy and celebration. Bring the wonderful feeling of summer to your wedding with a great wedding cake. Read on for tips on choosing the perfect cake for a summer wedding.

One of the first things to think about for your cake is what type to choose. A heavy dark chocolate cake, while scrumptious, might be a bit too rich for a July wedding reception. Lean towards more refreshing flavors, like classic white cake, lemon, or even key lime (yum!). Think about the season when choosing your frosting, as well. If your wedding will be outdoors, buttercream will be sure to melt in the heat of an August afternoon. A more hardy frosting like fondant will be a much safer option.

For an indoor wedding, you can have any type of frosting that you like; consider adding summery flavors to the frosting. Shreds of coconut over a buttercream frosting make a delightful pairing with a key lime cake. You can also combine fruit flavors, such as lemon and raspberry in your frosting and filling. A simple summer wedding would be the perfect setting for a white cake decorated with whipped cream frosting and fresh strawberries (as long as your reception will be in air conditioning).

There are many cake designs that will say “summer”. A beautiful and elegant look would be to decorate a soft pink cake with frosting “pearls”. Pearl bridal jewelry has long been beloved by brides. Not only is the pearl a timeless choice for bridal jewelry, but it is also the June birthstone. Using pearls on your wedding cake would be perfect for a June reception detail.

Summer is also a season known for its fabulous flowers. You can have your cake accented with summer blooms in either a neutral palette, like white with a touch of yellow or pink; if your style is a little bolder, choose bright and cheerful flowers. You can either use fresh flowers (pesticide-free, please) or have your baker create sugar flowers. For a fondant cake, flowers like gerbera daisies would look fresh and modern. On a buttercream cake, think about summer favorites such as hydrangea.

Trips to the beach are one of the best things about summer, and you can use that as the inspiration for your cake. Coral is one of the most elegant and sophisticated beach motifs that you can use for decorative accents. The graceful lines of coral climbing up the tiers of a wedding cake will look very chic and minimalist.

You can also choose to do a more exuberant beach inspired summer wedding cake. A talented baker can create an underwater theme confection with schools of vibrant fish for decorations. Seahorses would make another fun water related motif. Of course you can’t go wrong with a classic seashell design for your cake, either.

The wedding cake is really one of the main focal points at a wedding. Take advantage of all the wonderful flavors and themes of summer when designing your cake. There are so many fantastic options for a summer wedding cake that the hardest part will be choosing just one!
