Expensive Wedding Cake Icing That Tastes Like Dung

Wedding cake icing is quite often over looked by the bride & groom. Yes, it’s a seemingly small detail of the much larger picture, but that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. Truth be told, if you choose the wrong wedding cake icing, the result will be a cake that forces guests to up-chuck the dinner they ate just minutes before.657106277_cb3ce46022

The Icing You Don’t Want…

Fondant: This is a commonly used icing for wedding cake. Why? Well, it’s not because of it’s taste, that’s for sure. The reason fondant icing is commonly used is due to the fact that it’s the best icing for creating & maintaining gorgeous cake decorations & designs.

Once fondant icing hardens, the designs & decorations will remain in place and in perfect condition until the cake is ready to be eaten. The unfortunate drawback, this icing (usually) tastes like dung; at least according to most people.

Quick Note: The are a few different types of fondant icing. Some will be better than others.

Wedding Cake Icing You Do Want…

Butter Cream: This is the most popular cake icing around. It’s easy to decorate with, it tastes good, and it’s pretty cheap too. The one and only downside to this icing is that it bleeds easy if the temperature starts to climb.

Royal Icing: This is basically “sugar” icing. It can be used to create fairly intricate designs with minimal hassle. Like fondant, this icing hardens after sitting in place. It’s fairly tasty and is widely used by amateur cake makers.

While you don’t have devote hours & hours to choosing the right wedding cake icing, you shouldn’t just pass it off and hope things turn out all right. Give icing some serious consideration and you won’t be disappointed when it’s all said and done.

Summer Wedding Cakes

square_wedding_cakeSummer is one of the most popular times for weddings, and it is a season of joy and celebration. Bring the wonderful feeling of summer to your wedding with a great wedding cake. Read on for tips on choosing the perfect cake for a summer wedding.

One of the first things to think about for your cake is what type to choose. A heavy dark chocolate cake, while scrumptious, might be a bit too rich for a July wedding reception. Lean towards more refreshing flavors, like classic white cake, lemon, or even key lime (yum!). Think about the season when choosing your frosting, as well. If your wedding will be outdoors, buttercream will be sure to melt in the heat of an August afternoon. A more hardy frosting like fondant will be a much safer option.

For an indoor wedding, you can have any type of frosting that you like; consider adding summery flavors to the frosting. Shreds of coconut over a buttercream frosting make a delightful pairing with a key lime cake. You can also combine fruit flavors, such as lemon and raspberry in your frosting and filling. A simple summer wedding would be the perfect setting for a white cake decorated with whipped cream frosting and fresh strawberries (as long as your reception will be in air conditioning).

There are many cake designs that will say “summer”. A beautiful and elegant look would be to decorate a soft pink cake with frosting “pearls”. Pearl bridal jewelry has long been beloved by brides. Not only is the pearl a timeless choice for bridal jewelry, but it is also the June birthstone. Using pearls on your wedding cake would be perfect for a June reception detail.

Summer is also a season known for its fabulous flowers. You can have your cake accented with summer blooms in either a neutral palette, like white with a touch of yellow or pink; if your style is a little bolder, choose bright and cheerful flowers. You can either use fresh flowers (pesticide-free, please) or have your baker create sugar flowers. For a fondant cake, flowers like gerbera daisies would look fresh and modern. On a buttercream cake, think about summer favorites such as hydrangea.

Trips to the beach are one of the best things about summer, and you can use that as the inspiration for your cake. Coral is one of the most elegant and sophisticated beach motifs that you can use for decorative accents. The graceful lines of coral climbing up the tiers of a wedding cake will look very chic and minimalist.

You can also choose to do a more exuberant beach inspired summer wedding cake. A talented baker can create an underwater theme confection with schools of vibrant fish for decorations. Seahorses would make another fun water related motif. Of course you can’t go wrong with a classic seashell design for your cake, either.

The wedding cake is really one of the main focal points at a wedding. Take advantage of all the wonderful flavors and themes of summer when designing your cake. There are so many fantastic options for a summer wedding cake that the hardest part will be choosing just one!

Delicious Tips For Fall Wedding Cakes

One of the things you look for as a bride during your wedding planning is the perfect wedding cake. Some brides go with the traditional gateau. Others go for something unique that will match their theme. There is even the southern tradition of a groom cake. As you can see the ideal cake is different for each bride but then you really get into the details. There is the icing, the cake design, and the flavor of the cake itself. As the fall season is fast approaching the big trend is the autumn wedding cake. However there are many ways to achieve this confection. Here are some interesting cakes that may inspire your choice if you are getting hitched this season.square_cake

The all around perennial favorite is the chocolate cake. It is a classic that is very possible for it tempered sweetness and rich flavor. If you add on chocolate icing, the appeal trebles. Chocolate is popular during other times of the year but there is no other time it is more appropriate as a wedding cake as during the autumn and winter months. Chocolate is a deceptively simple confection and flavor as we think that it is quite limited in the way that it can be used. Funny enough, the truth is quite the opposite. There are several kinds of chocolate cake from German chocolate to chocolate mousse and the design options are quite varied. For the season try having the icing sculpted into familiar fall shapes like maple leaves and chocolate. The single color combined with these fun seasonal shapes produces a cake that is theme appropriate but gives an impression of understated elegance.

An interesting new trend is fall cake toppers. You can have the traditional groom and bride with a fall twist. The most obvious takes advantage of holiday motifs like Halloween or Thanksgiving. An interesting new trend is to go atypical using confections shaped like popular fruit like apples or pears and fall vegetables that are harvested like squash, pumpkin, corn, or even wheat. The result it sumptuous to look at and gives a cake a unique flair that sets it apart from its more traditional cousins.

Another interesting trend is the use of icing and confectionary decorations on fall wedding cakes. In short it is simply amazing. Cake makers are now making their creations into edible art recreating scenes of fall in all their glory. This is great for the bride wanting something that is one of a kind. For example the icing and candy is used to depict the branch of a tree with a full complement of realistic fall leaves and even wild life such as birds. This creates a truly dramatic cake. The truly amazing ones take it a step further by making the scenes or fall shapes 3D. One that I recently observed was designed to look like a pile or artfully arranged fall leaves sticking out from the basic architecture of the cake.

The bold bride can go even further for the perfect autumn cake by using seasonal flavors such as carrot cake, sweet potato, or even pumpkin. Done right by people with the proper know how this produces case with delicious and unique flavoring that will surely be remembered by guests. You can also go for more tame varieties like ginger, or spice cake.

Picking great wedding songs are simpler, if you have a special theme to your wedding.
